Amy Mac, author of “Fitness Attack 2: Fitness Made Too Easy,” shared a few of her favorite fitness mantras and tips for this month’s “Fitness in 5!”
Favorite Mantras
1. Every Little Bit Counts!
Passing on the office donuts, switching to diet soda, mustard instead of mayo on a sandwich, skipping the bread basket, no bacon on a salad… these all save calories and those add up to losing weight or maintaining your waistline. Don’t think in terms of ‘being on a diet,’ think about ‘living a healthier lifestyle.’
2. No Regrets!
If you think, “I should go for a bike ride,” then you should DO IT! Otherwise, when it gets dark or cold or whatever, you’ll wish you would have and maybe even feel guilty about missing the opportunity. No would’ve, should’ve, could’ves – get out there and seize the day!
3. Tomorrow’s Another Day
If you eat a piece of birthday cake today, then enjoy it and start over tomorrow. Don’t wait for the next week, next month, next year to make a fresh start – you get a chance every day!
Favorite Tips
1. Portion Sizes
One of my favorite tips is to have people portion their meals and then serve them on a salad plate, instead of a dinner plate. There is just something satisfying about having a full plate of food and then being allowed to eat it all!
2. Dining Out
If you order a salad, get the dressing on the side. Dip your fork into the dressing before every bite, you get all the flavor and save a ton of calories!
