They say, “Nothing changes if nothing changes.” And thus, in an attempt to reshape your health, you must also reshape the approach and your level of commitment. You must make this the BEST-Change! In the past year and a half, I have completely reshaped my health. Here are my 5 tips for staying the course, making the commitment and reshaping once and for all (via BEST-Change):
1. Boredom. When we’re bored with anything in life, we tend to give up on it or put less effort into it. If you want to stay committed to your fitness goals in order to reshape your health, try something new on for “exercise.” For me, I found a new love in snowboarding, and thus new ways of cross-training (core, yoga and legs) when I’m not practicing my new sport.
2. Eat. Staying the course and committing to reshaping your health means eating, eating frequently, eating healthy and eating by way of “right” for you! Food is fuel. Fuel is sustaining. And once I realized the concept of eating to live vs. living to eat, this all made sense.
3. Scale. Mind and body are absolutely, 100% connected. I made a big change by taking the scale away for an entire year. Our minds play silly games on us when we see a number on the scale we don’t like. If the jeans fit, and you are eating healthy and exercising on a consistent basis, then quite possibly that “number” on the scale is going to increase. Muscle weighs more than fat. Committing to reshaping my health has also meant reshaping my mind which weighs more than a number!
4. Time. Once I fully believed I was worth the time to take care of myself in the form of exercise, meditation, preparation of wholesome meals and relaxation without an accompanying “guilt,” I had without-a-doubt, reshaped my health.
5. Change. In order to reshape, I had to do things differently than I had known before. Change up your workouts to avoid “muscle memory” and “autopilot”. Change up your water intake (I now drink 8+ cups and it has truly made all the difference). Change your approach to food (Always get a stomach ache post-gluten? Experiment with smaller/no quantities in your diet). Change your attitude in general. Any change, big or small, could have you reaping benefits and reshaping your health.
