Now that spring has showed its lovely face, I’m thinking more and more about shorts, tank tops and late nights outside laughing and hanging out. Spring is always the perfect time for me to start a fresh routine, rejuvenate and “lighten” everything up.
This spring, I’d like to carry you along with me to refreshing via the perfect spring treats! I have some ways of how to avoid tempting/high-calorie treats and instead focus on light and refreshing ones. Here is how to maintain this healthy lifestyle:
1. Shop like you mean it! The best way to avoid tempting/high-calorie treats is by avoiding the purchase altogether. Skip those aisles at the grocery store. Don’t keep those treats in your house. Instead, when the craving hits, head out for a single portion. Craving cookies? Instead of buying a box, head to your local bakery and grab one!
2. Be creative! For every tempting/high-calorie treat there is a “food swap” item. I once tweeted these out for a week. Here were a few:
a. Mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes.
b. Boil or bake instead of fry.
c. Frozen yogurt or sherbet instead of ice cream.
3. Fresh squeeze! You’ll be tempted during the spring and summer to grab juices and smoothies. But when you grab-n-go, typically they are filled with sugar and empty calories. Try making your own juices. I recently purchased a juicer. It was the best “pre-spring” purchase I made. Here is a favorite combination: Celery + Apple + Broccoli + Carrot. Amazing, all natural, light and fresh.
4. Move and then indulge. This works for two reasons. The first is because once you are active and are in the habit of completing consistent workouts, you are much less likely to crave bad food. The second is because if you put in a hard workout and absolutely must indulge, doing it right after the workout is the best time to do it. Your metabolism will still be in overdrive.
I have never had a problem with tempting foods or lack of movement once spring hits. Maintaining my healthy lifestyle peaks at this time of the year. There are so many ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle once spring hits, and I guarantee that if you give the above 4 ways a chance, you will find the same success!
Of course there are many more ways to avoid tempting/high-calorie treats and instead target focus on light and refreshing options. What are your best secrets?
