Take yourself back to the last time you were sitting around, eating, talking and laughing. It was the perfect evening that really intensified when everyone broke out the, “Do you remember when….” stories. These were the stories that never really got finished because everyone was on the ground, laughing so hard, making everyone’s stomach and face literally hurt.
Now that – those times – are life well laughed!
Laughing is a verb, but to me it’s also a state-of-mind, a conscious or unconscious way of living every day in happiness. But no matter how you define or view the word “laughing,” here are 5 simple ways to live a life well laughed:
1. Lighten Up. No, I’m not talking about your calories this time. I’m talking about your attitude and approach to life. Lighten up; don’t take things so seriously. Laugh at yourself. Laugh with others. Laugh at silly YouTube videos or random movies. No matter what, don’t go a day without laughing “just because.”
2. Laughing by Association. Surround yourself constantly with positive, upbeat people who make you feel 200% and want the absolute best for you. Don’t waste precious laughing on people who make you feel anything less than amazing. Share the best moments in life and laughter with these people.
3. Dinner Parties. Or Coffee Dates. I associate food with two things. One: Fuel to keep me active, healthy and vibrant. Two: Comfort, conversation, family and friends. It’s in the latter, that I could indulge in a 2-hour coffee session or 4-hour dinner party just to indulge in conversation filled with laughter and people I adore coupled with the food that fills the soul.
4. Run. No, there is nothing funny about running. Run, bike, swim, dance, walk, lift weights or Zumba – just do something! By moving, we keep ourselves young at heart, and thus we keep our hearts pumping for much longer. The longer we’re alive, the more time earned for laughable moments.
The last way to live a life well laughed is part of my daily motto. I have a quote I refer to frequently that says, “My three keys to success: One, work hard. Two, be your own person. And three, have a passion for what you are doing.” It is passion that rounds out the 5 ways to a life well laughed. It also rounds out a life well lived and a life well loved.
5. Passion. Without passion, my world falls flat. Passion is the driving force to success, health and happiness. Passion is found deep within. It’s a churning of emotions and driving factors that makes you reach for something and be completely excited by that something. Living a life filled with passion makes each day seem brighter, more enjoyable and always worth those light, laughable moments.
The best thing about living a life well laughed is that it doesn’t cost a thing. The only cost involved is the investment you make in yourself, the investment in living through laughing and loving!
