5 tips for summer vaca image_S. Kay Hoffman June 2011 post

Ah, summer! The long winter has led to a highly anticipated summer. Gone are the days of cold and dreary, and present are the days of warmth and barefoot in the sands!

Back in January you without-a-doubt committed to your Reshape Goals. I know by now you are well on your way to feeling even more confident in your (already) beautiful and glowing skin. Good news, all of your hard work is just in time to indulge in a summer vacation!

Before you get too settled into the rest-and-relaxation mind frame, here are 5 tips to enjoy your summer vacation without derailing your reshape goals:

Tip 1: Make it an activ(e)-acation! Constant activity doesn’t have to be the focal point of your vacation, but try to include it however you can with wherever you are. Last summer during a mini-vacation to Montana for a wedding, my husband and I climbed Mount Helena one morning. Gorgeous? Absolutely! Active? Intensely! And afterwards? Nothing but hanging out and having fun with friends!

Tip 2: SnackJoy for the DailyJoy! Vacations should be stress-free and fun. Make daily snacking while on vacation a necessary joy, but be cognizant all the same. Calories while on vacation can sneak up quickly, so indulge, but be picky-’n-choosy and select a little of the best! Make note: If your vacation is an active one, be sure to have plenty of small, portable snacks at all times. Click here for some ideas.

Tip 3: Relax! Did you know that relaxation through massage, meditation, yoga or plain old resting is not only good for you, but mandatory for muscle recuperation and building? What better time than on your summer vacation to take part in these activities. No guilt!

Tip 4: Try something new! What is something you have always wanted to do? Take a summer vacation and plan something you’ve never done, but have always wanted to do. Surfing? Hiking? Kayaking? Knee boarding? Mountain Biking? Last summer, we went to a ranch because I wanted to try horseback riding. I had never done it before. It was active, new and challenging!

Tip 5: Rise ‘n Shine! Get your workout in during the wee hours of the morning when others are sleeping, lounging or making plans for the day! It’s summer, so you could go outside for a run or walk. You could also head to the local park and do some circuits: sprints, jumping jacks, burpees, mountain climbers, pushups and sit-ups. Enjoy the morning, moving your body and make it a quick, calorie-burning session!

You have come so far with your reshape goals! You should feel proud of yourself, and you should enjoy all that a vacation has to offer!

I’m looking for ideas for a fun, new and active summer vacation this year. What are you all doing? Would love to hear!

@Sugar –> I am dying to try surfing. I’m scared, but I think it would be a ton of fun. Would love to attempt it with you:)
@John –> Did you know I’m originally from MN? There are so many awesome things to do there in the summer!

Great tips Sarah! I’m headed to MN for a family vacation so these will be good to know. We’ll be doing a lot of swimming up at the crystal clear lakes MN has.

Since I live by the beach, most of my active fun this summer will include a board. I have a surfboard that I need to dust off and attempt to get back up on. Another fun board sport that I picked up this past spring was Stand Up Paddle boarding. It’s easier to stay on than a board rushing towards the shore. :)
