Our days of running through the sprinkler and swimming are all but gone. Now, the temperature is dropping and the leaves are changing as we enter into a new season. Fall brings more and different fun stuff for us to do – especially with our kids!
Here are a few of my favorite fun fall activities:
1. Get Lost In a Corn Maze. This is an October tradition for my family. Every year, a couple of weeks before Halloween, we travel to a local farm for a little corn maze fun. It’s a great reason to get everyone out on a brisk fall day for a nice long walk. Sometimes it takes us over two hours! To find a maze near you check out MazePlay.com or theMaize.com, both have search features for you to find one close to you. Our favorite, Maize Quest Fun Park, is located in Pennsylvania right over the Maryland line.
2. Roast Up Some Seeds. Don’t wait until you carve your pumpkins! Did you know you can roast any winter squash seed? That’s right, acorn, butternut, delicata, even spaghetti squash can all be roasted! Kids LOVE to help! Let them separate the seeds from the pulp. Then, rinse and spread them on an aluminum foil covered baking sheet. Spray with some non-stick cooking spray and bake in the oven at 275 degrees for about 15 minutes. After you remove them from the oven and let cool, sprinkle with kosher mashed potatoes or eat them straight up. I love putting them in my son’s lunch box.
3. Take your Camera and Go For a Hike! This is one of my favorite things to do with my son. The leaves are changing, the weather is cool, and the skies are clear. It’s just perfect! We love to bring our camera and snap photos of trees and bugs. Click here to see one of excursions last October.
Writing this is getting me all excited! I can’t wait to get out there and enjoy the new season!
