It’s almost Halloween! You know what that means…CANDY!
In a few days the kids will get inundated with tons of it on Halloween night which always ends up lingering around the house for weeks, months, even years! If you dig in my pantry you’ll find remnants of Halloweens past in the forms of lollipops, Reese’s and Dots.
All the fun treats revolve around sweets like candy corn, gummy worm and lady-fingers. It’s a total sugar overload! So, this year how about choosing a festive cheese based snack that still screams “YAY for Halloween!” without sugar?
All you need are some Mini Babybels in your favorite flavors and pre-sliced perpperoni. The cheddar flavor works great with the Mini Babybel and Pepperoni Jack-O-Lanterns recipe because of the color–and pre-sliced pepperoni. I used turkey pepperoni to save a few calories. Here are the steps to creating:
- Simply cut the Babybel in half, creating two circles.
- Carve a fun Jack-o’-lantern face on a slice of pepperoni. A small paring knife works or even a toothpick.
- Once you have your face, press it firmly on the flat (cut) side of the cheese.
- Serve on a platter with some sweet honey mustard and spicy brown mustard for dipping.
It’s guaranteed to attract the kids and maybe, just maybe, we can get a few non-sugar bites in them this Halloween. Yay for fun cheese!
