Grabbing drinks with your girlfriends is so last year. In honor of National Women’s Health and Fitness day, pledge to be more active with your friends this fall. Once the whole gang has decided collectively to be more active, you might be looking for different ways to spend time gossiping, laughing and sweating together. Here are three fun ways for you and your girlfriends to get active this fall:
Half Marathon Weekend Getaway
According to Running USA, the half marathon has been the fastest growing road race distance in the US for the past 7 years. The rise in popularity has led to a surge of races available to run in. Take advantage of this, and sign up for a race that is either nearby or make it a weekend vacation with just the girls! The Rock ‘n’ Roll series features half marathon races all over the country with quite the entertainment set up along the route. Las Vegas will be host to the popular race on November 17 making for a perfect fall weekend filled with fun and sweat.
Right next to the half marathon, adventure and obstacle races like the Electric Run are also becoming increasingly popular. The Electric Run is a nighttime 5K that is lined with lights and music to pump you up. With twelve scheduled races in cities all over the country, this is a perfect alternative to a night out on the town that will actually leave you feeling accomplished on Monday. The 5K distance also makes this race more inviting for fitness newbies and perfect for groups of friends without intimidation. Register with a team of four and save $5 each.
Bike To Brunch
If you are lucky enough to live in a city with shared bikes like Boston, New York City of Washington, D.C., take advantage of the opportunity to burn a few extra calories before your brunch ritual. Avoid the car or public transportation, and enjoy the weather before it gets too cold. There are so many good restaurants to discover, yet we often visit the same ones close by our homes. Take a little time to enjoy the ride and travel to a spot that you’ve been dying to try but too lazy to trek to. If you have your own bike – even better!
If you are the outdoors type, try hiking, mountain biking or mountain climbing if the terrain near you is permitting. The fall is my favorite time of year to be outside, and I’m excited that it’s finally arrived! What is your favorite season for outdoor activities?
