We recently had a special Laughing Cow team out and about spreading Snack Joy around the streets of NYC this month while in town for BlogHer ‘10. People found The Laughing Cow team handing out yummy samples on corners, at the top of subway stairs, near their gyms, hotels, apartments, office buildings and more. We shared The Laughing Cow Light Wedges and Mini Babybel with excited, unexpecting fans of our tasty snack cheese. We also shared our fun new stickers featuring @TheLaughingCow to remind all our friends and fans to connect with us on Twitter. Just goes to show you – You just never know where you’ll find #SnackJoy! And, if you have any pics from this sampling fun or hanging out with us at BlogHer ’10, make sure to post them on The Laughing Cow Facebook Page.
We asked our favorite Twitter and Facebook friends about their “secret snacking behavior” and they shared some tasty tidbits! According to the delicious responses (seriously the responses were detailed and delicious), the most popular snacking time is after dinner and before bedtime. Since you’re preparing yourself for slumber at the time, it’s important to be aware of the type of snack you are having. Something portion-controlled and light is a more swimsuit-friendly option. And, we want you to know you are *not* alone.
We all love summer BBQs and gathering with friends and family, but it can be tricky to find a portion-controlled snack on the picnic table. Not this time! The delectable Slim Queso Corncobs are only 110 calories per serving. Just grab a wedge of The Laughing Cow Light Creamy Swiss along with 3 ears of corn, light mayonnaise, Cayenne pepper, lime juice and zest, cilantro, Kosher Salt, Parmesan Cheese, and follow the quick and easy directions here. You’ll be the hit of the party with this tasty and slimmed down version of corn on the cob!
Thanks to all of our new friends and everyone who participated in the Play for Laughs game at BlogHer ‘10! If you haven’t played yet—here are some details and you can check our Play for Laughs page! Participants were asked to pose with their favorite The Laughing Cow product for a funny photo. Some of our players picked The Laughing Cow Light Wedges and others picked a Mini Babybel. We had all the new flavors and some of your old favorites too. Winners were selected at random and awarded a red iPod nano. J
We’re pleased to highlight Kelly Olexa as one of our Play for Laughs participants. Kelly, featured in the photo here, is an awesome fitness blogger and fellow cheese lover! Thanks to all who “Played for Laughs” and see the whole photo album on our Facebook page. Tag yourself!
This month we spoke with fitness leader, Sarah Dussault, and learned about her special stay-fit tips. Sarah places an emphasis on diet and urges women not to fear the weight bench! Check out her top 5 tips below created especially for YOU.
1. When it comes to losing weight, fitness is 20%, the rest is all diet.
People seem to think that if you workout, you get to eat what you want. This is so not true. The myth that your body continues to burn calories after your workout misleads people into thinking they can eat whatever they want afterward. Although there is some truth to this fact, it is not scale-changing. It’s a mere 50 calories, which would be like 3 mint candies. If you want to lose weight, diet is more important than exercise. If you want to look good and stay there once the fat is gone, exercise becomes more important. Exercise will also speed up the process of getting to your goal weight in half the time than without. Don’t expect to lose weight with just exercise alone.
2. Weights are a girl’s best friend.
So many women are afraid of weights. They think they will get bulky if they use them. This is so wrong and I can’t believe I even still get this question so often. The most dramatic change in my own body I have EVER seen came from lifting heavier weights than I was used to and higher reps.
3. If you’re not doing intervals during your cardio session, you’re wasting time.
Intervals burn more calories than boring steady state cardio. Mix up your regular routine next time by alternating intensity between songs. Twenty minutes of intense interval training has the same benefits as steady state jogging for 40 minutes. Being short on time is no longer a valid excuse.
4. Mix things up to stay dedicated and refreshed.
Nothing makes exercise stale like doing the same thing every day. Try a new class, take a tennis lesson, discover a state park on the weekend. During the week I’m pretty dedicated to running, but I love to take different classes at my gym like Pilates, Yoga, Body Pump or even Zumba. On the weekend I love to play tennis, go swimming, kayaking, hiking, basically anything active! Finding a form of exercise you truly love will help you stay on track.
5. Find your motivation and don’t forget it.
People frequently ask, ‘how do I stay motivated?’ The answer is simple: I feel better when I do and I keep a mental note and picture to remind me of this fact. Whether you want to get in shape to have more energy to play with your kids, prevent diseases, lose weight, sooner or later that goal may fade. Keep it in sight with a picture. Every time you lack motivation look to your special place so that you are reminded why you started in the first place. And if that doesn’t help, go blast your favorite new song!
As part 2 of our focus on fun summer fitness tips, we’ve got some more suggestions for getting out and trying some of the latest fitness crazes. Don’t let the summer pass you by without having some final fitness fun this season! Feed your adventurous appetite with a little bit of excitement, pack a snack and get moving! Check out the list below and tell us what fun summer workouts YOU plan to try. Kangoo, anyone??
Indo boarding: Indo boarding classes use surfboard simulators to help focus in on core strengthening and improving balance with a combination of aerobics and fun.
Kangoo:Kangoo is a futuristic shoe designed with a spring attached to the sole of the shoe. When combined with aerobics it is a great addition to your favorite cardio workout.
Hooping:Hooping is way more fun than the hula hooping you remember as a child, because the bigger and heavier the hoop, the slower it rotates around your body. This means that even if you think you can’t hoop, with one of these hoops, you can!
Yoqua: Submerge yourself into the comfort of a warm pool and experience the integration of water with the ancient science of yoga. Modified dynamic and static yoga postures in the pool enhance balance, structural alignment, and muscle flexibility.
Ai Chi:Through focusing on spirit, mind and body with flowing exercise and relaxation, Ai Chi uses a combination of deep breathing and slow, broad movements of arms, legs, and torso. The results are an improved range of motion and overall mobility, increased metabolism and caloric consumption, deep relaxation and decreased stress and insomnia.
Thai Yoga:Thai Yoga Bodywork is a therapeutic technique that restores the flow of energy throughout the body. Thai Yoga is a deep, full-body treatment, which includes both stretching of the joints and muscles, and applied pressure to the sen lines. Thai people use massage not only to treat illnesses, but also to maintain health and well-being.
BOSU: Originally meant as an acronym for “Both Sides Up,” this exercise incorporates a special “ball” that can be placed on the ground with either its flat or rounded side up. A BOSU class can include aerobic and strength training routines, flexibility exercises and balance training.

Model and personal fitness trainer, Anna Kaplansky, took time out to share her top 5 fitness mantras with us, including the importance of finding balance as well as tips for getting yourself motivated:
1. It’s not ALL OR NOTHING. 60% of doing some kind of exercising is still better than 100% of not doing anything. A lot of people put so much pressure on themselves that they end up stopping their workout routines. When I don’t feel up for a full blown workout, I try to at least do something.
2. I try to always remember that the less I feel like exercising, the more I need it. I play back in my mind how proud I feel after conquering a steep hill and finishing a run. I think to myself, “I did it! Good for me!” It’s also fun competing with myself. I always time my runs and monitor my heart rate.
3. Picture yourself in those expensive pair of jeans you have been wanting to fit into, and how proud you will feel when you are getting ready to go out for dinner with a loved one or some friends and you get compliments. I try to keep all that in mind when I don’t feel like pushing myself.
4. I take pride in living what I preach. I don’t believe in depriving myself of everything “sinful” that I enjoy. It’s about finding a nice balance. Have a reward system. Treat yourself after accomplishing your workout goals. It can be anything from a nice bubble bath at the end of the night, to buying a delicous wine or having your favorite pasta dinner. Make lifestyle changes that YOU feel you can live with. If you enjoy chocolate, don’t say to yourself “I can never have chocolate again.” Say to yourself, “If I stick to this week’s routine and I push myself the chocolate will be my reward.” This type of thinking works for me.
5. I think about working out in terms of health because when you take care of yourself from the inside, it will eventually show on the outside.

We know how busy you are and how important it is to have that quick nibble to keep you going! So, we asked around the (cheese) block and heard some cool tips for snacking on the go that we thought we’d share:
The Laughing Cow Light Wedges are delicious and easily paired with cut green peppers as well as on crackers with strawberries, tomatoes or salmon. If you’re running out the door with a Mini Babybel, we’ve learned that fave pairings include apples, mangos and high fiber roll ups.

Danny McLarty is a fitness coach at Flex Personal Training in Danville, California. Among other accreditations he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and we’re thrilled that he offered his top 5 fitness tips for The Laughing Cow community!
1) There is no ‘magic trick’ to improving your body; train, eat, sleep, and repeat. Those that are consistent, disciplined, and give everything they have, can bring their health, physique and performance to a new level.
2) Prepare your meals in advance. The old saying holds true here “Fail to plan, plan to fail.”
3) In the weight room, program design is very important. But effort and focus are the most important things!
4) To achieve the physique we desire, what we do outside of training (weight lifting and cardio) is crucial. If we train for about 1 hour a day, we have 23 hours left in the day to “undo” our training. So, take your non-training times seriously. See tips #1 and #2.
5) Have fun. If your “training program” has been nothing but running/walking on the treadmill, maybe it’s time to get outside and enjoy the weather while burning some fat off. In the weight room, mix up your rep ranges. Have you been doing nothing but 3 sets of 10 since 1984? Switch it up. This whole “training game” does not have to be boring. It should be something you look forward to everyday. Well, almost everyday!
Hey Laughing Lovers! It’s a Beautiful Morning to Jump rope and burn some calories before you head into your Summer Nights and Say Hey to the Boys of Summer and Escape the Hot (Child) in the City!

How do you enjoy your Mini Babybel or The Laughing Cow wedges? Are you putting honey on your cheese or melting it on a sandwich? We’ve heard so many great snacking stories, and we’d love to see photos of the delicious pairings you make!

Self-described country girl, Sarah Kay Hoffman chatted with us about her fitness focus and lifestyle tips and tricks! Check out our Q&A with Sarah!
How would you describe yourself in 3 sentences?
I am an extremely passionate individual who thrives on life, love, happiness and everything in between. My professional side loves all things marketing, branding and social media related. And my personal side is made up of my husband, family, friends, my Peekepoo & Great Dane, lots of coffee, good food, red wine and a fitness habit that keeps me fueled for it all!
Q: How do you stay fit?
A: I workout 5-6 days a week. I love circuit training, weights, running and biking. I mix my workouts up constantly so that I’m never bored and always doing something fresh! On my “off days” I like walking or easy running outside!
Q: What inspires you to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
A: I have many food intolerances and a form of colitis. If I don’t maintain a healthy lifestyle I pay for it. Additionally, I am inspired by a positive attitude. I believe that living a healthy lifestyle gives me all of this!
Q: Do you have any secret tips or tricks? What is something you do every day that makes you feel good about yourself?
A: I have lots of them! One thing I do every day is find a quote that inspires me and I write it down. I have a whole notebook and spreadsheet with my food, workouts and how I’m feeling. It keeps me on top of my health.
Q: What’s your favorite Laughing Cow cheese recipe?
A: My own! I take a high-fiber, low-carb tortilla and spread a wedge of Garlic & Herb Laughing Cow cheese on it. Then, I spread a little roasted garlic hummus over that and place extra-firm tofu pieces on it. And then I roll it all up! Absolutely delicious.
Q Have you laughed today? When and why?
A: Of course. Everyday–nearly constantly. I have a Peekepoo and a Great Dane, and the Peekepoo runs the show! This morning, the Great Dane was chewing on her bone and within 5 seconds, the Peekepoo had walked right over, pawed the bone and put it in her mouth and walked away. She shows me daily that it’s not the size of the dog in the fight–it’s truly the size of the fight in the dog!
