Frequently & Infrequently Asked Questions

Where can I find your products?

It’s easy, just enter your zip code where it says “Find The Laughing Cow® Products” at the top of our site. If there are no stores carrying our products in your area (gasp!), we recommend a letter-writing campaign to the Dairy or Store Manager of your local grocer. Get family, friends, neighbors and coworkers to participate.

Please note, currently Walmart and Sam’s Club stores do not participate in our store locator, although they may carry our products.

Can I order directly from Bel Brands USA?

Sorry, but we do not sell or ship directly to consumers. Just enter your zipcode at the top of our site to see store locations near you.

Are your products gluten free?

During the cheese production process we do not add gluten or any ingredients that are known to contain gluten. However, ingredients and products change on a consistent basis so it is always advisable to read the ingredients on each product before enjoying.

How long is the cheese good after I open the package?

After opening the outer box, the cheese will stay good through the expiration date on the bottom of the box, as long as it is kept refrigerated properly. After opening the foil wrapping, we recommend eating the cheese right away. Exposure to air will dry out the cheese.

Mini Babybel® should also be eaten right after you peel off the wax coating. That way air won’t dry out the cheese.

How long past the “sell by” date is the cheese still good?

We recommend enjoying our products by the date on the package.

Is it okay to freeze the cheese?

Please do not freeze The Laughing Cow®, Mini Babybel®, or Laughing Cow Smooth Sensations™ cheeses as it will affect the quality.

Is the cheese kosher?

No, our products are not kosher.

Does the cheese contain any animal rennet?

No rennet of animal origin is used in our products.

Are The Laughing Cow® products suitable for vegetarians?

Is the cheese pasteurized?

Does the cheese need to be refrigerated?

The Laughing Cow wedges should be refrigerated after purchase and opening to ensure the best quality and taste.

The Laughing Cow®, Mini Babybel®, and Smooth Sensations™ cheeses should be refrigerated at all times when not being consumed. We advise that when serving guests, cheese is safe unrefrigerated for 2-4 hours, and remaining cheese, if there is any, can then be safely returned to the fridge.

What allergens enter your production facility?

For The Laughing Cow® and Mini Babybel® products, milk is the only major allergen that enters our facility. No peanuts, tree nuts or egg products enter the plant. If there are any sensitive ingredients, they are clearly listed on the label.

Where does The Laughing Cow® name come from?

After the war, Léon Bel used a version of this cow to adorn his boxes of processed cheese in a round box and called it La Vache qui rit® (The Laughing Cow®). Today, The Laughing Cow® cheeses are sold all over the world.
